The Norwegian Medical Products Agency is responsible for health technology assessments (HTAs) of pharmaceuticals, vaccines and medical devices.
Many people require healthcare, but resources are limited. Therefore, fair prioritization of patients and equitable treatment with new methods — pharmaceuticals, vaccines and medical devices — are important.
Decisions on implementation and public financing of health technologies are informed by HTA. In an HTA, we assess their benefits and costs compared to other alternatives, as well as the severity of the patient's condition. Our goal is to ensure fair prioritization and responsible public spending.
NoMA participates in pan-European collaborations on joint HTA of pharmaceuticals and medical devices. Joint clinical assessments inform national HTA in Norway, while national authorities decide if medical products are implemented and publicly funded.
