The Norwegian Medical Procucts Agency (NOMA) works actively to prevent and manage medicine shortages in collaboration with manufacturers, pharmacies, and the healthcare system.
Pharmaceutical companies are required to report supply issues, but this does not always mean that patients are affected. Most shortages are resolved at the pharmacy, where patients may receive an equivalent medicine, a different strength or package size, or a foreign package of the medicine.
All reports of supply issues are collected in a dedicated overview in Norwegian:
- Search the overview for pharmacies
- Search the overview for patients and healthcare professionals
- news articles on shortage situations that require a broader perspective, for example when patients need to change treatment
DMP also participates in European cooperation to strengthen preparedness, ensure access to critical medicines, and reduce vulnerabilities in the supply chain.
