He succeeds Rui Santos Ivo, Director of the Portuguese agency INFARMED, who has successfully chaired the network in recent years.
The chairmanship lasts for three years and includes responsibilities such as leading the network’s meetings, engaging in political advocacy, and maintaining dialogue with the European Commission and the HTA Coordination Group.
Ottersen will lead the network together with Vice Chairs Lionel Collet from France and Thomas Kaiser from Germany.
Ottersen’s election strengthens NOMA’s role in international cooperation on health technology assessment. Earlier this autumn, several NOMA employees were also given important roles in this work:
- Sari Ormstad has been elected Vice Chair of the group that develops and conducts joint European clinical assessments (Joint Clinical Assessments, JCA).
- Alexandra Poulson is Vice Chair of the group for scientific advice (Joint Scientific Consultations, JSC).
- NOMA is now playing a central role on several fronts in developing the European network for health technology assessment. This gives us a unique opportunity to influence and enable task-sharing in Europe, says Trygve Ottersen.
